Area Image

The Liwa Oasis is a large oasis area in the southern region of the United Arab Emirates. As part of what is known as the ‘Empty Quarter’, the area lives up to its name in the best way possible - small patches of green magnify how stunning the endless stretches of gold sands are. The Empty Quarter is the biggest desert in the world, and this is the perfect spot to try one of the Emirates’ most popular activities, dune bashing - powering over the dunes in four-wheel-drives, sometimes leaving the ground completely - or do a bit of sand boarding. Animal lovers can try falconry, one of the most highly regarded and ancient practices of the country. Other highlights include: the extraordinary annual date festival, and the 200-300-year-old forts that were built to protect water sources.
